Hello Everybody,
Just wanted to put a note here that my parents got the visitors visa in 4th attempt at Mumbai consulate. Everything went very well. Visa Officer was an Indian lady and she didn't ask any complicated questions. Only few regualr questions like why are you going and what your son does there and how many kids you have here kind of things. There visa was rejected 3 times before and I had absolutely no confidence but was hoping they get it.

One thing it clears up which I believed up until today is that once your visa is rejected you ar automatically rejected in future attempts.

Did you furnish any additional documents. why were they refused earlier.
Mt Mother In law too has been refused twice and I would like her to apply again.
Let me know after what intervals were your parents applying again .........
Thanks

No additional docs

I did the same documents as I did previous three times. I followed the list from Immihelp. I also hired an Immigration consultant in Bombay to help them prepare for interview and setup the documents. He charged Rs.4000 for each parent. They had applied first two times in March & April 2003 and then in Dec'04. I waited two years purposely to create some gap between the previous rejection and current application. Ironic part is the Visa officer didn't even look at any of the documents.

Hi

The system is very confusing and unfair,

It seems that the decision is up to one person at the consulate, your life is in their hands and sucks

Just so you know that section 214 of ina states

Every applicant shall be deemed and immigrant until such times as they prove to the consular officers satisfaction they are not.

You should take, proof of social, financial and family ties to home country for interview and show strong case for need to return to home country, then you stand a chance of getting visa

Oh, and depends on what mood the officer is in on day of interview !

I think DOS sent cable sometime back to make supervisors to review the case when it is rejected. I lost the link to cable, but it should be on DOS site.

Sheer Luck

I don't think it has anything to do but with Luck. Also, factoring in this whole thing is role of interpreter. First time when my parents went they had all the papers but my dad didn't show him but this interpreter didn't convey the question correctly and it messed up. This time the VO was an Indian lady and they directly talked to her and worked out great...Also, they just got the passport back today and it is 10 year multiple entry visa....
