Parents coming to the US

I am a US citizen and I wish to sponsor my parents to come here. Ther are both Danish citizens and as such I would need to file a I-130. Now where it gets a little fuzze for me is:

- How long will it take before they will be able to move here? I know that it all depends on the processing times (I live in NC) but I am more interested in the steps and at which point them will be able to move here.
- Can they be in the US when I file the I-130 if they entered legally on the visa waiver program there is in place between Denmark and the US?

Both my parents and I are trying to gauge what is involved and when they should plan on starting to pack and sell their house.

Thanks,
-S

1) about a year after you submitting the first paperwork.
2) no. they can not enter under the VWP because they need to have non-immigrant intent, and they clearly do not.

Hmm, thanks. So living in NC I would fall under the TX SVC but looking at the processing times the TX SVC doesn't show I-130 on the list. Would I in this case belong to another SVC?

So I guess that even with this being my parents and no visa number limits that it would still take a year?

Thx

Two more things; suppose that I file tomorrow and in July they get approved. Then they will have to wait until the paperwork makes its way to the US embassy in Denmark and they have their interview, correct? So that will tack on at least another month. They they get the interview and get approved, how long do they have before they will have to use the visa? Does it expire if not used within a number of days/weeks?

Second, after they get their visa what is next? Anything else we will need to ask USCIS for? How long is the I-130 visa good for?

That's about right - the whole process takes around 6-9 months from the filing of the I-130 to the issuance of the consular immigrant visa.

An immigrant visa is valid for six months from issuance.
