PAN Card now or after taking OCI

I am an Indian Citizen but soon to become US Citizen. I do not have a PAN Card and would like to get one. During all my trips, I was increasingly asked this while making financial transactions. People were awestruck to find that I did not have one (cause I left India before PAN card was established).

Can I hurry up and get one now (while in US) or I can safely take anytime after getting OCI (and on my next visit to India)?

You can get it any time.
 
I would suggest you get one now before you become a citizen. After you lose Indian citizenship, it might be a bit more of a hassle. Why bother with that? Have someone in India do it for you now.
