PA Senator/Congressman

Anyone here tried contacting PA senator or congressman for help with the case status?

I am planning to do so since my I-140/485 ND 7/15/03 still pending with no news, 2nd EAD and AP approved in June 2004. No FP yet. Initiated Case inquiries two times no news yet.

Sen Rick Santorum actually has an office in the building that I work in - I keep thinking about going down there, but am not sure if it will help, since I'm really just waiting for my FP (check my sig for details on my status). I did see that some (very few, actually) people around the June/July onwards RDs have got their FP letters, but most are in the same situation that I am in - I do plan to go there if people here around my RDs report a flood of FP notices but I haven't seen that yet.

I wonder if I can ask the senator's office to get an update on the FP issue? Just throwing it out there to see what other folk from PA with Rds from mid last year think?

Philly KP, May be you can inquire from Sen Santorum's office if they have any immigration assist person or who to contact in his office? His website does not have anything like that.

I sent a mail to the general email address on his website but dont think that will be useful.

But if you are in the same building, I would appreciate if you can enquire about it. That will help many. Thanks

I read in one of the VSC 485 threads that they stopped issuing mass FPs after June 2003. They will issue the FPs only when they are close to one's 485 adjudication. That explains why so many of us haven't even had 1st FP done. Hope this helps!

Update from the Senator's office

Guys,

Walked down to the office today. Was met by an intern in the reception and seated in a conference room to await meeting a caseworker/liason. She walks in, and surprise, surprise, turns out to be someone who I had 'hung out' with, in a club about a month ago ;)

So anyways, after the initial greeting and embarassment from my side (since I hadn't called her back :D ) she was very helpful.

She called up a number at VSC right then and there in front of me and talked to someone after introducing herself from the Senator's office. In just about 3-5 minutes, from my 485 EAC#, she was able to find out that I have filed an FOIA request recently, my H1B 7th year extension has been approved and I currently have overlapping EADs and APs, my employer, etc.

However, on the things of most concern (FP notice, actual adjudication), she got the standard answers from the VSC rep - they are processing June 2002, and that I could get the FP notice anytime in the next 6-12 months. She also got the spiel about VSC not issuing FP notices for around a year since they are working on reducing backlogs, blah, blah, blah...The rep also seemed to have told her that my 'case looked good' but that it had been pending 'only a year' at this time  .

Dear PhillyKP,
may I suggest that you approach the senateur to lobby for a law that would allow permanent residents to be joined by their spouses? The wait is 5 years as of now. US citizens can do it in a month. I beg to use your contact to work towards this.
I hope you get the FP notice soon.
