Owing IRS and Interview Process

Can anyone share their experience about the N400 process/interview if they owe IRS back taxes? What documents should I bring for the interview? I filed all my tax returns but screwed the numbers for 2004 and ended up owing back taxes. I'd appreciate insight on this matter. Thanks.

Clear all tax issues with IRS before your interview. So if you owe back taxes for 2004 then pay the amount, make a copy of the check, send IRS a cover letter, make a copy of the cover letter.

If asked, then present all these documents during the interview. If not asked then don't mention it.

Thanks for the reply N400applier. I wish it was as simple as paying them back in full sweep. I owe quite a bit and have actually made an acceptable payment arrangement with IRS. I dont think this should cause my N400 to be denied, shouldnt it? Anyway, I just want to make sure I take all the docs I will need and it will be nice to hear from people who had been in the same situation I am during their N400 journey.

You are right. This will not affect your citizenship applicaion. In any case take all relevant documents to your interview. Payment arragngement letter, copies of checks sent to IRS etc.
