hi people, maybe some of you can provide some info on this.
i overstayed my visa in us by 2 years and then moved to canada and got permanent residence there. i got a job that requires me to travel to the us quite often and they want me to get a long term business visa. if i am unable to get that visa i'll lose that job. what are the chances i'll get the visa? the company is one of the largest in the world and they've given me a letter sayin that company work will require me to travel to us. help people, especially from any attorneys out there. thanks.

I am not an attorney, but how long ago was your overstay?

For persons who overstayed more than 1 year there is a bar of 10 years to re-enter the US.

You should consult with your company's legal department or your own legal advisor.

Good luck,

Well said Cherr . You nailed it , but I really want to second your opinion .

Overstay on visas lead to more problems when you apply for a new visa . there is a 3/5/10 year bar on entering the US .
As you have PR in Canada , and now that your company is sponsoring your visits , you have a good shot at getting a B1 visa . Contact your Legal Dept , or consult an Immigration prof .

Good Luck .

3/10 year rule is very clear and does not matter which citizenship or PR you have.
Sorry, but if one stayed more than a year, chance getting visa next 10 years is extremely slim.
