Out on TN and AOS, in on H1B

Hi there

I just want to verify that I am doing everything right. I am currently on TN which converts to H1B on October 1st. I-485 is pending and AP is approved. H1B approval notice on hand. No valid Canadian Passport (expired): only Citizenship Certificate. I will leave US and enter Canada on September 30est on land while still on TN and reenter US on October 7th on H1B. Do I have everything that I need? Will I be questioned why I applied for AOS being on TN?

Your situation is fine. The important thing is that on Sept 30th, you have AP, which permits you to leave US and not abandon your I-485. When you return to US, you will use your H1 (the I-94 on your notice is sufficient, but the officewr may make you fill a new one) to reneter. You will then be in H1 status, and should present this I-94 to your HR when returning to work, for filing i-9.
