Do you have a valid AP valid for the next 6 or 7 months or a valid H1-B or similar visa stamp which will not expire for the next 7months? Then you are okay. Else your I-485 will be considered abandoned...

Talk to your lawyer.

u need to either have valid H1 stamped on ur pp or AP to enter.
its safe to have ORIGINAL 485 receipt.

GC is for future employment and you can definately stay outside US
pretending u will come back and work for ur 140 petiotioner.

Yes, you can continue as long as your GC sponsorer supports your GC processing (means, they will employ you in USA upon GC approval). However, when you get I485 approved (or before that) it need either valid visa or AP to re-enter. If you don't have valid visa or your AP expires while staying abroad, another option is consular processing.

Good luck!

If you are not planning to use your H-1B stamp for return, you should not leave until you get the AP in hand. These days EADs and APs are being processed fairly quickly, so hopefully that won't be a problem for you.

yes it makes more sense that you've an AP before you leave.
You dont renew EAD as u'll be outside the country. carry the old
EAD if any. Since u r planning to stay outside for long time make sure
you also carry copies of all GC related receipts.
