Hi guys.
I'd really appreciate it if someone could give me advice.
I came to the U.S on an H-1B visa as a software developer. It was to be for a consulting job. Unfortunately, the market had taken a deep dive, and i wasn't able to get placed. My employer instead chose to retain me as his company's in-house programmer, but could not pay me more than room and board, and i agreed, as long as, once placed, i would be paid what was owed to me. This was the only way i could stay in the country with hope of employment and proper compensation down the road.
It has been 8 months, and i am leaving the company to finally work for another that will be paying me and processing my H-1. The only problem is, since i was out of status for so long, im not sure what the ramifications will be as i try to process the H-1 through the second company.
If anyone can give me some advice, or point me in the right direction, i'd really appreciate it.
