I know this is off-topic. But still thought, may be we can get some help/advice here.

One of my friend is working in a gas station. Two days ago, one person came and introduced himself as Bank Of America Employee and pretended to be taking a survey for product enhancements. He asked the name of my friend. My friend gave the name. Immediately, he wrote it on a paper and ran away. When my friend saw the paper, it is related to a criminal investigation case and he is supposed to be a witness for that case. My friend tried to stop him but he ran away in a car.

What kind of world is this and the system? How can we be trapped in a case when we are not at all related to that case?

What should he do now? All he heard is that he has to attend the case in court.

do you guys ever heard of this situation? If yes, any reference or advice is greately appreciated.

Thanks

witnesses are summoned by a court issued document - one cannot write on a "piece of paper" ....

it is a hoax, just ask your friend to walk into a local police station and report the incident. It is possibly a known crackhead that pulls this stunt at other places.

Actually the document looks like a court issued document. In that document, he just entered the my friend's name under "witness" tab.

Thanks.

I've been approached by strangers, in a similar situation as what your friend encountered, a few times in the past.

The first question that always came out of my mouth was: "Can I see your ID"? Funny that in some cases, instead of answering my question, they just walked away :)

I did that, even when that happened at a mall and the person/people looked nice.
