Hi! my interview is coming up on April 12 and on my document checklist it says exactly this:

B. An original IRS 1722 letter (call IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-1040), listing tax information for the past five years (or for the past three years) if you are applying on the basis of of marriage to a U.S citizen.

I understand, from this sentence, that only if you are applying through marriage you have to bring this document but now I have doubts. I am not appiying on the basis of marriage.
Thanks!

Terrible punctuation on the part of the USCIS grammar team. It really should read as:

"B. An original IRS 1722 letter (call IRS toll-free at 1-800-829-1040), listing tax information for the past five years (or for the past three years if you are applying on the basis of of marriage to a U.S citizen.)"

Bottom line is to take your tax info with you.

Tax transcripts are generally only asked for marriage based applications (when trying to establish proof of marital union) , cases where continuous residency ties are in question, and if you answered that you owe the IRS money or have failed to submit an income tax return in the past on the N-400 application.

is IRS 1722 letter the same as Tax Transcripts?

Yes, the 1722 is now the 4506-T tax transcript form. USCIS never updated their instructions (big surprise).
