All,
During interview, will officer ask to present original birth certificate?
I have copies and a legalized copy from the embassy of the country I was born in, but not original anymore because we lost the paperwork.

Also, since these docs were not in English, I assume that I have to find a translator for the doc content. Will any translator I pick up from the yellowpages work? Or will there be any special requirements?

Will not having the original birth certificate be a showstopper?

cheers,
jasonb

It should not be a show stopper. They should have the birth certificate documentation in your file from your GC application.

I would still advise you to carry with you whatever you have with you.

In my case I never had a birth certificate. So with my GC application I had to submit affidavits in lieu of birth certificates. They should be having these in my file. I also have extra copies which I intend to carry with me to the citizenship interview.

They usually do not ask for birth certificates.

They usually do not ask for birth certificates.

It is true that they do not usually ask for birth certificates. However I have friend who had his citizenship interview about 6 months back in Chicago. The IO was looking for his birth certificate in his file during the interview, and since one did not exist, she mentioned that she could not find his birth certificate. He remembered that he had submitted affidavits (with his GC application) from two people familiar with his birth, and he mentioned this to her. The IO then found the two affidavits in the file and said that they would be sufficient, and moved on.
