Options for GC holder?

Hello

I am a GC holder, obtained it through the citizenship of my spouse. I have already spent more than a year on GC and will be eligible to apply 3 years from the date of GC (90 days earlier).

I am planning to go outside the country to spend more than a year. If everything goes well, I will not be able to return for another 2 or 3 years. May be even 4. But I will return back at a later time.

If I lose the GC because I was not within US, will I able to reapply for GC as my spouse is a citizen?

How long can I stay outside the US when I have GC without losing it?

Please advise.

Thanks in Advance !!

---------------------apply for Reentry permit Before you go out of the US, you can provide US address or US consulate info in your country from where you can pick up the Reentry permit. if you feel somebody can send you your Reentry permit that will be sent to US address then provide US address on form I-131. it takes about 3-4 months for Reentry approval and is valid for 2 years from approval date. you can enter US before reentry permit expires

If everything goes well, I will not be able to return for another 2 or 3 years. May be even 4. But I will return back at a later time.
--------------you cant return after 3 or 4 years with expired Reentry pernmit

---------------be back before 1 year, file US taxes, keep US DL

If your spouse is not with you during the years you are outside the US, you could have problems with reapplying because the long separation creates the appearance that the marriage is not genuine (note that if your time overseas is for being in the US military, it won't be considered as time outside the US so you wouldn't lose your green card for that).
