Hello dear forum users,

one of my friend is majoring in Accounting (BA). His F1 visa will expire in 2009, when he graduates.

now he is so worried that if he will be able to find OPT (CPT) (I don't really know the difference) in Accounting field. He would like to find a sponsor or a company that can sponsor for H1, but so far he didn't even manage to do internship in Accounting yet.

Can u suggest him options that he can try to stay longer after his visa (F1) expires.

Could anybody have managed to find H1 sponsor in Accounting?
where can he find list of companies which will be more likely to sponsor for H1.

thank you very much for help

He cannot get an H1B for this year. There are many business graduates every year; there is not likely to be a shortage of accounting job applicants.

that's so sad... :(:(
what if he continues his studies and does masters in accounting. Do you think, finishing masters in accounting would improve his chances to get H1B?

He is kind of regretting for choosing Accounting major right now. By the way, which business major can offer more chance to get H1B? I heard that "Industrial distribution" is a good major to chose to be able to get H1B easier. Is that correct?

A US education should not be viewed as a guarantee for a job in the US. He certainly should not be making educational decisions on what is best to get an H1B as the job market in the US changes regularly. What a way to have a miserable life!

Every foreign student in the US should assume that he/she will return to their home country when they finish their studies as they attest they will do when they file for an F1 visa.

Your friend is graduating in 2009? All he needs to do is to get an OPT after he graduates, H1 for this year doesn't concern him since he graduates next year. Regarding finding an employer that sponsors accounting graduates. There are a number of them in the public accounting (auditing) field and they are in fact always looking for people. A business graduate does not equal an accounting graduate. Does his school offer on campus recruiting? Is he putting himself out there looking for jobs?

What the heck is an Industrial Distribution major anyway? Why does he regret choosing accounting? There is such a good demand for accountants/auditors right now. A masters might improve his chances due to the extra 20K visas available to masters level students, but his chances of getting an actual H1 depend on the number of people that apply for H1. His chances of getting hired by an employer who sponsors H1s mostly depends on him.
