OPT to F-1

I am currently on OPT and not working. My opt expires on May 2007. If I want to apply for F-1 with Kaplan in order to maintain my status, when should I apply.
I mean how long it will take for me to get I-20 from new institute.
If i dont receive my new I-20 before OPT expiration will I be out of status for that period of time.

you need to get a new I-20 within 60 days of your OPT expiration date. You can also do it before the expiration date, but as soon as your SEVIS record is trasferred to the new school/program, your OPT EAD is no longer valid.
