OPT question

I got my associate degree in art and science since dec 2004. At that time, I did not have an intention to apply for OPT because I wanted to finished my Paralegal studies(Paralegal program is required AA/AS). Moreover, I didnt think that I could get a good job experince with an AA/AS.
My question is......

Can I still apply for the OPT after I get the certificate in Paralegal studies? I'm so confused. When I read the requirements for OPT, it doesnt anything specific about the degree, certificate or diploma. For example
"What are the Eligibility Requirements for F-1 Optional Practical Training?
To be eligible to apply for optional practical training, you must:

* have been in full time student status for at least one full academic year preceding the submission of your OPT application
* be maintaining valid F-1 status at the time of the application, and
* intend to work in a position directly related to your major field of study."

I'd be very happy if anyone can answer my question. Thank you so much. :o

It is my understanding that you can, since you have been on F-1 status for 1 year at least. If you are on F-1, you can apply for OPT when your schooling nears completion- I don't think there is any rule that you have to be doing degree vs. certificate. In any case, application for OPT will require processing by your school's international student office, and you should contact them now. This is sure to be an easy question for them. I hope this helps!

G'luck :)
