Hi,

Consider a following scenario.

My wife is on F1 and will graduate by June 09. I am on H1. After graduating, she decides to go on H4. She stays on H4 for a year, can she apply for OPT later?
For how long OPT remains valid?

she can't apply later after bring on H4 for a yr

OPT is a privilege not a right. It has to be applied withing 30 days after graduating. When on OPT her status will remain F1. If she is doing STEM, she gets 29 months which is longer than anybody can foresee and plan, so take it while you can.
