OPT ends in April 2008. Can I apply H1 in Apr 2008? Urgent

Hi Guys,
My Masters OPT started from Apr 1st 2007 and ends in March 30th 2008. If I apply for H1 for next fisical yr , apr 2008 in premium processing, Can I start working once I get approval of H1(I mean some where in May '08)? Or I need to wait till Oct 2008? In between Apr and OCT what Can I do to be in status? I didnt applied for my H1 this year as I will graduate in May 2007.

It will be great if some one reply me in detail. Thanks in advance.

You have to maintain status till Oct 08

Dear Friend,

You'd have to maintain the status until October 08, as you cannot work until then.
H1B petition approval notice doent authorize you to start working right away until the specified time period.
However, you can join a university (few though which i know) that offers you CPT and then you can work.
But again, be sure to select the companies before joining them. To asses each company visit http://www.rahasiam.com
