OPT delay/ FBI background check

Hello,
I am student on F-1 visa . I applied for OPT Oct 06. I contact USCIS via mail/phone and get the reply that case pending as FBI background check is open. I searched through the forums and didn't find info on case like mine. Do you guys have any advice on how to handle my case. I have job offers in hand but cant start work until my EAD card arrives. Its sad .
Your inputs will be highly appreciated.

can your school help you? how about immigration ombudsman? It is taking unusually long, and you should have gotten at least an interim EAD. After all, the EAD you will receive may be approved as of the date you requested (in the past), and then it won't be any good to you, since it may have a month or two left on it. I think you should request that your international center help you.

Thanks LucyMo for the reply. School has never seen a case like this. My school advisor talked to some contact in USCIS and they said its matter of FBI and only thing i can do is wait.

I even wrote a letter to California service center about my case and they send the whole package back with a Customer service number to contact.
I called up the number and put in a referral and after a month i get a letter saying that case is pending, wait for the reply. Then after a month i call again and get the same letter with case pending.

how about immigration ombudsman?

What/Who is ombudsman ?
