Opt Application Time

I need one immediate help!

Will I be be on legal status if I apply for OPT before graduation but I didnot get formal approval from INS atleast until 90 days after graduation. I know I cannot work but will the stay be legal?

I believe you have up to 60 days after completion of studies where you're still good...
