I understand there is tax exemption for those who work under OPT, i mean students.

Iam working for company A and they pay after tax, but one of my freinds said that students under OPT need not pay tax and they can claim tax, if yes what is the procedure and form required and date within which i should file.

Pls help

ok, you have to be more specific.

As far as I know there is no specific tax exemption for F-1 students on OPT. A student may claim a tax exemption based on a tax treaty with his country, but it's country specific, and your country may not have such a treaty with U.S. If there is a treaty, you would still pay taxes out of your paycheck, but when filing tax declarations, you could get some of the tax money back as a refund.

Lots of INternational centers at schools provide excellent tax assistance to its F-1 students. Why don't you ask them?
