onH1-name change?

my wife is on H1...we want to change her last name. (she has none rigt now..so its causing problems here)
can anyone tell me how long does it take to get the new/dupicate passport from chicgao consulate?


here are the two questions i have:

question 1:

after she gets her new passport, will she have to go to canada to get the visa stamped on her new passport?
can she change her job with the new passport?

question 2:

if she wants to change her job, is it advisable for her to get her H1 transferred to the new company and then apply for a change of name?

I too had the same problem. I changed my last name by going to indian consulate. Then changed on social security and all the identity papers. I had to renew my h1 as it was expiring. So while renewing it I gave my marraige certificate copy along with new passport with name change with my application. Waiting for my H1 right now. Hope this helps.
