On-going special registration and I-485 freeze?

Here's an update (though nothing new) from immigration-law.com :

"Updated 12/10/2002: 485 Freeze: When Will It Be Lifted?

The INS HQ is reluctant to admit it officially, but currently adjudication of I-485 is on hold across the board. No one knows what has caused the decision of freeze and more importantly when it will be lifted. It reminds people of the long and painful freeze of 485 applications a few years back pending CIA clearance, which contributed to a mountain of 485 backlogs to the level of over 2 years of 485 processing times. No one knows the exact cause this time around, but one wonders whether it has something to the on-going special registration programs. Please stay tuned to this web site for development of this news."

So far some people have correlated current freeze to FBI checks, or IBIS checks or CIA checks. Now it has been correlated to (possibly) man power relocation for special registration/interview efforts for nationals of certain countries.

It's surprising that INS can't admit freeze instead of replying every time of "no freeze, processing as usual but delayed approval" kind of answer.

Just a point to ponder over...

There seems to be no end to this freeze

The last approval we saw was on 11/19! the said it will take 1-2 weeks but considering TG we will be lucky if we see any before next year!

Yesterday I found eac0205151570 was approved on 12/7, it was "resumed" on 12/3.

If it's for special registration, then it should affect only those 18 countries.

There're still RFE and transfers processed.

dengdeng...

I am more often than once impressed by your eternal optimism. "Approved" status also is displayed after GCs are mailed. If INS is processing I-485 cases as usual without any explicit or implicit freeze or slow down, why no approvals are reported either on rupnet or on this forum? Agreed that rupnet or this forum's participants might constitute a very small number out of the overall I-485 applicats' pool, even then no recent approval postings by any member does not seem (at least to me) to be a mere coincidence. I am sorry but I can't believe that INS is still processing I-485 as usual.

Best wishes,

Jigesh

Yes, I know there aren't many approvals in past two weeks. But this particular case is approved on 12/7, since I check on 12/3 it's still "process resumed" can't be the case of GC mailed.

As long as we see RFE and transfers, that means the whole process is not stopped.

I wish it's a manpower reocation thing rather than CIA checks. Manpower thing will be solved in short term, but extra security check is very scary.

One can only hope for the best so the life is still bright.

If not for the slow down, INS should be well into Nov cases now. We're just bunch of unlucky guys having the wrong RD.

Remember in May, INS freezed 485 approvals for a month too, but after that,
the processing speed was fast. So let's hope this slow down issue can be solved
this week.

I would recommed you read http://www.shihab.net/empimm/I485sop.pdf
This tells you how INS process cases, from mailroom to adjudication.

It seems unless one is very unlucky, EADs (including renewals) are processed as usual (4 to 6 weeks) while APs (including renewals) seem to take a bit longer (8 to 12 weeks). Not 100% sure though...

Best wishes,

Jigesh

Most probably, EADs don't need IBIS checks and a couple of my colleagues recently got EAD renewals from VSC within 4-6 weeks without any problem.

To my surprise

eac07250109 was approved on Dec 5.
eac07250326 was "written decision notice send out" on Dec 5.

Do you know what is "written decision"?
is it denial?

072 is Dec RD.

INS said all applications have to go through IBIS checks, I think EAD too. Otherwise why local office stopped same day EAD renewal if it's not subject to IBIS check.

IBIS check is very quick, only take a minute to search in the database. The name hit rate is 4%.

You are right - IBIS checks, if required, should be quick enough.
Good to see approvals - your optimism really works :D :D :D
"Written decision" could be either 'denial' or 'intent to deny' or sometimes even 'RFE.'

Jigesh, I just found out

eac0205950365 and
eac0205950400 were approved on 11/13/02

eac0205950448 and
eac0205950494 were approved on
12/6/02

eac0205950426 and
eac0205950458 were denied on
12/5/02

059 should be Nov RD.

dengdeng.......

you are doing a great job!!! But still not very sure that why no one from this site is getting case approved........in fact if you look into all the service centers not able to see a single case approved! What could be the reason any thoughts?

eac0205151570 still says on march 14th processing resumed, i don't know from where you got that, i tried it out it doesn't say it is approved

Sorry, it's 5151270. I typed the number wrong.

It could be the percentage is slowed down a lot, and the rupet is just a small pool of all cases.

dengdeng

accroding to your message the following case was approved .but i just verified the case status looks like it's still pending.
Thanks
