Hi there,

How long on average does it take to get your social security # and/or card with an EAD saying that you apply at the SSA office?

You bring in your EAD and passport, correct? Can it be an expired passport?

Thanks in advance!

It might take 2-4 weeks to get the physical card, but if you go back to the SS office in 3-4 days they usually will be able to tell you what your SSN is.

You don't need the physical card to work, just the number. The I-9 form at an employer can be filled out with just the EAD and your photo ID and it doesn't even need your SS#. You can fill the tax forms out just writing in your SS# and don't have to provide your physical card for that either.

In-correct, read the I-9 form again...............

I don't have to read it again. There's nothing in the I-9 form about the SS number being mandatory while filling out the I-9 unless you use it as one of your documents. You only use an SS card OPTIONALLY to document evidence of legal right to work in combination with another picture ID such as a DL.
