Old Immigration File Review

Hello asylum forum members,
My case is pending for almost 2 months because the asylum office has not received my old immigration file from the other office. When I did a status inquiry, I was told that there is another immigration file that must be obtained and reviewed before my case can be decided. The officer is still waiting for that file from the other immigration office and can't make a decision without that file.

Does it really take 2 months to look for my old immigation files?
What will happen if they lost my old immigration files? Will my case be pending forever due to lost files?

Are you waiting for the decision?

Did you have your interview already? so are you waiting for the decision from the asylum officer now?

Keep us posted!!!

Yes, I had the inteview 2 months ago and the asylum officer told me that he can't make a decision until he receives my old immigration file from the other uscis office.

He has not received that file yet.
What will happen if the other uscis office lost my old immigration file? Will my case remain pending if they lost my old immigration file?
What should I do if the other uscis office lost my old files?

they didn't lose your files... it just takes more time.

I did some research about NFTS. NFTS is a computer tracking system that uscis uses to locate a file when needed. Unfortunately, not all officers use the computer to update the location of the files. In other words, the computer might show the old location of the file because for some reason the officer who worked on the file did not update the system. There are thousands of files that are misplaced and I started to worry that my file is one of them.

I just called the asylum office and the lady told me that they are still waiting for my files from the other office. The other office is only 30 miles away. It is already 2 months.
