Old credit problem and OPT

A friend was in Us more than 10 yrs back on F1. He came back recently again on F1. Now his application is pending for OPT. He got debt collectors saying he has 2000 USD from his prvious visit.

He has a job lined up and OPT is under processing. What are his options?

If anyone knows how to tackle this. It would help the desperate fellow. :(
 
So are you saying USCIS checks credit histories before issuing OPT? Do they really have time for that?
 
USCIS and a collection agency are two very different things. He shouldn't worry about his getting his OPT work permit, but he should pay his debt when he gets the job.
