OK New question about pending EAD

I know if you don't have the EAD you can't work....but my REAL question is:
Suppose my TN expires and my EAD hasn't arrived. Does this mean I just can't come to work or get paid, or does this mean the company has to fire me and re-hire me when I get the EAD?

I hope this is clear: what I mean is, if there is a 1-2 week lapse in my employment authorization, can I just take it as vacation (which I do have) or unpaid leave, or do they have to can me and re-start me as a new employee?

You can take a Leave of Absence/Furlough.

I explored this option since my authorization was also expiring with no sign of my EAD.

I suggest having a conversation with your employer about your options...
