Friends, sorry for this off topic message.
I m shopping for Med Insurance for visiting parent.
Any recommendations or Don'ts.

Anybody has experience with India Network health Plan ?

TIA.

Depends on age and pre existing health of your parent.

Goastros, Hi. Personally if your Mom and dad are healthy, I would not get any insurance. You could just add on uninsured motorist on your car insurance or check with your auto insurance for coverage for co-travellers, in case of a wreck. Emergency room visits even for basic XRays could run up to a few thousand dollars. Without a high BP or Cholesterol or Sugar problem, the chances of something happening here in the U.S in a few months is negligible. YOU COULD USE THIS OPPURTUNITY TO HAVE THEM CHECKED OUT BY A LOCAL M.D IN YOUR COUNTRY, AND ALSO HAVE A STRESS TEST DONE BEFORE THEY BOARD THE FLIGHT.

My brother in law used a traveller insurance based in England , which actually paid big bucks for a heart attack his mother had while here in the U.S. I'll try to get that info for you.

Hope this helps.

Definately get the insurence, even they are healthy or not that is different case.

One of my friends father came for visit with his family and after touring US while his return he got heart attack and subsequently he pass-away in the hospital.

My friend has the United India Insurance from India it self. All the medical covered for him. They have some office in Florida (mercury insurance, i just recalled) for the medical approvals.

Try in India it self so that their travel insurance in Flight also covered and they will cover loss bagage and passport stuff also.

I WOULD not risk. My mom visited here and she had simple cold and it cost me like 500 dollars...think what would be the case something more serious happened.
Khapde bhej ker raste pe aana padega....ram ka kehna sab time such nahin hota :D :D b

Goastros - I got coverage for my parents last year from a company called Liaison International after looking at a few other options (see attached xl file with benefit/deductible info). Cost was significantly higher than what EB2_ is mentioning. Premiums tend to go up quite a bit after age 70. Fortunately, we didn't have to use the insurance, so I cannot comment on how good this company is. I would also strongly recommend some type of insurance (either from India or here) - hopefully, you won't need to use it.

Thanks guys for your experiences/idea/opinions.
My parents & then my in-laws had come here in 02 & 03 resp. and they had bought insurance from India - New India insurance.
But from what I understand there is some conflict between new India & their underwriters based out of europe ( paris) and lot of Ppl are finding it tough for their claims.
Luckily, we didn't have any reason for them to visit a doctor on their last vists.

I was therefore shopping for one and was considering buying it in
US.

Bash, do you know who are the underwriters for your friend' insurance? Maybe new india assurance changed them from mercury to Coris ?

eb2_I485_RD0901 , as per Tata-AIG , i heard that they don't give for more than 3 months. They say you can renew it after 3 mons but they don't.

Picsarus, I will check abt the ones you have listed.

Right now, Indnet.org is lowest price. Anyone who has had claims with it ?
