Off Topic - Indian Passport Extension of Validity Problem

Guys/Gals:
I had a 1 year validity passport (my previous passport was allegedly damaged so they issued me a new one valid for 1 year) that expired in Feb 04. I applied for extension of validity. They gave my passport back (after 2 weeks if I may add) with a stamp in one of the pages that says "This passport is valid till blah blah". So I have the front page with a expiry date of Feb 04 and a stamp that says it is valid for 10 more years. Looks like I am headed for big trouble when I travel or getting my GC stamped when I get it.

Is this normal? Anybody else in the same boat as me? Any experiences? Appreciate your responses....

Yes My wife also got the same stamp for 10 year extension.
we traveled to India with that 10 year extension stamp and there was no problem.

My attorney send the extended page to INS just to let them know that our passport is extended till that date.

It is normal, all the short validity passport is extended in the same way ! Our passports are also extended exactly like this and
we are planning to visit India this summer !

They do write a little note below the expiry on first page to see page # .

When enter US then Check your I-94 expiry date Or piont it to officer that passport is valid til lXXXX and show the Validity page as they look at the front page only and dont know if Passport extension stamp from Embassy or consulate is on other page. If you are staying near to Consulate or Embassy you CAN get new Passport copy and Inform the consulate that you need new Copy of passport as "someone faced problems to enter US and officer at POE dont see all the pages of passport with Stamp from consulate or embassy ".

3-4 years back someone faced problems with 20 year validity Passport. India issued 20 year validity passport in past. The POE officers suspected that his passport is not original as most of the countries passport validity is only 10 years. That case was discussed immigration community and was bought to attention of Indian consulates and Indian embassy DC and they then posted on web that who have 20 year validity passport are valid Indian passports but if person need a new passport copy with 10 year validity they will give new Copy and will not charge. Many changed passport Copy and many still have 20 Year validity passports that were issued in 1997- 1998.
