can anyone explain what retrogression or backward movement is? I do not understand how it can move backward.

Priority dates for countries like India and China usually retrogress once too often. There were some spill over visa numbers from ROW which were allotted to India and China during the last quarter (Aug, Sep VB for that matter) of the fiscal year. The effect of that was PD's for EB2 moved from 2004 apr to aug 2006. Now with the beginning of a new fiscal year there are no spilled over visa numbers from ROW and the PD's have been pushed back, so much so that it has gone to apr 2003....ridiculous.

Your case being EB1, should not have any problems with AOS. Congratulations and good luck with 485!!
