OCI under chicago consulate

It depends on the urgency of your need. It seems to be taking about 1.5 - 2 months from mailing in the application to receipt of the U visa and the OCI certificate for all applicants. I have no experience with the PIO card but, from all the accounts I have read on the net, it doesn't seem to take more than 15 days to get. If you don't have an urgent need to travel right now or don't foresee something coming up, I would recommend applying for the OCI.rushil said:Hi,

I submitted my application to Chicago in late April, acknowledged May 18 and status "granted" Aug. 30. Most everyone else with a file number in sequence to mine was approved about a month earlier than mine. I think mine was more unusual, but it can take three months.

I mailed my application for OCI to Chicago on:
PartA - 2/09/07
Mailed application - 2/10/07
USPS tracker shows that document delivered on - 2/12/07
When I verify the status on line with the number USACI12xxxxx, I see....
"Application with this number not yet Acknowledged"
Am I I entering the number correctly? Will I get acknowledgement by mail? Should be able t track only with that acknowledgement number?
Can someone throw some light to subside my anxiety.

Based on recent Chicago tracker updates, this is the approx. timeline
App. rcvd. by consulate to acknowledgement = 1.5 months
Ack. to the date docs rcvd. by consulate from Delhi = 2 weeks
OCI booklet/visa stamp = 2 weeks
Total time = 2.5 to 3 months
