Hi,
I am trying to buy a property in India. Do you what is the process for getting Power of Attorney (POA)? How long is does it take the CGI Houston to process attesting the POA?

As a US Citizen (OCI), do I need to get a Authentication letter from US Dept of State?

If it has been answered in a different forum, kindly redirect me.

------------------ if you are in India just go to Court and find some lawyer and get POA typed and you and Power of Attorney holder both need to sign before Notary and both will need 2 Passport style Photo. POA signed before notary is good for Registration of the property in India but if you also want to give the rights to sell the propery then better get POA registred before Registrar or Sub-Registrar.

-------------- I dont know check the site of Consulate.

-----No. If you get POA processed through US consulate and then send it to India then in India POA holder has to pay the stamp duty on it.

------------------ ****POA made in India is better and no need to write on POA that you are US citizen just write that you stay out of the city.
For buying property better pay from your NRE account and keep the check numbers that you paid to seller
. Once you get the property registred on your name make copy of Registration and attach one form(CA or Broker may know the form number and send it to RBI Mumbai so that if you want to sell in future you can bring the money back to US (you can bring what you paid from NRE account and for the extra money you will deposit in NRO account and after paying tax on NRO money you can bring the money to US)
