OCI after Indian Visa

Hi,

I will be becoming USC on May 26th and will apply for US passport on the same day.

My question is...I need to travel to India ASAP after I get the US passport. So I am thinking of getting an Indian VISA first. Then after I come back from India, I will apply for OCI.

Is this allowed and has anybody done this?

Also after I get the US passport what do I need to do in terms of Indian citizenship?

Yes, it is allowed. You will need to surrender your Indian citizenship/renunciation before applying for the Visa.

Once you get the US passport. You should apply for the VISA in person . You can submit your renounciation application along with the VISA. This way you will get the VISA and renounciation done in couple of days. One of my friend did the same last week for his wife and he got the VISA and renounciation certificate in two days.
I applied for my renounciation and Travisa received my application on 4/18. Travisa took over 5 weeks to open and process my application . Now it is pending with the Consulate. I have an appt. to apply for VISA this thursday. Lets see what happens.
