Perhaps one of us can call Jackie at 562.429.8499 and ask for any press releases from Rep. Sanchez's immigration forum. If Jackie doesn't have any press releases, then follow up with some questions regarding the contents of the forum and whether Linda brought up the backlog issue at the CSC.

Any better ideas?

I called the number solarise mentioned in his post and i spoke to a lady by name Maria (Event controller) and she mentioned that the meeting was an informational event rather than a q&a style event.

Since all the faxes we sent were basically about the backlog issues and we are not from their district they were sent to their washington office and either will be forwarded to the respective disctrict congressman/woman or replied directly to us.

So, no minutes of the event or any details available with them.

kadamtal,
Thanks for your having called to Linda Sanchez's office.

solarise,
Thanks for your advice.

We have learned something from this event...

RE: CSC I-485 Process Performance Problem

Dear Congresswoman Linda Sanchez;

I'd like to urge you to talk about the performance problem for I-485 adjudication process at the California Service Center (CSC) directly with CSC Director Mr. Don Neufeld because your are a member of House Subcomittee on Immigration from California. I believe you had received more than 20 faxes from ImmigrationPortal.Com members at the week of "Immigration Forum". We are asking your support not for individual cases but for the I-485 backlog issue at the CSC. Please take it into consideration.

1) I-485 Processing Date
When I filed my I-485 application in 2002, the CSC was the FASTEST service center among 4 service centers nationwide. However, the USCIS has updated CSC I-485 processing date only once by just one month from 11/16/2001 to 12/16/2001 at the report of 9/1/2003 for last 14 months since 1/15/2003. Now, the CSC is shamefully the SLOWEST service center.
Code:
[color=blue]    01/15/2003 - 03/04/2004  414 days
---^-----------^-----------^---------^------------
CSC 11/16/2001 - 12/16/2001   30 days  30/414=0.07
NSC 08/01/2001 - 09/30/2001   60 days  60/414=0.14
TSC 11/01/2000 - 06/13/2001  224 days 224/414=0.54
VSC 10/15/2001 - 01/31/2002  108 days 108/414=0.26[/color]

2) Don Neufeld's Excuse and Promise on I-485 Backlog at CSC
My representative Anna Eshoo wrote to CSC Director Don Neufeld in November 2003, and he responded to her on 12/22/2003 as follows:
As we make progress in completing the older background checks, the processing time for I-485's will begin to improve. However, because of the competing need to adjudicate approximately 60,000 El Salvadoran applications for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) prior March 9, 2004, we do not anticipate assigning any additional staff to process I-485s until the latter half of this fiscal year. We do plan to significantly increase resource allocations to I-485 adjudications beginning April 2004. Based on current workload projections, our goal is to reduce the processing time for Adjustment of Status applications to 12 months or less by the end of September 2004.
According to USCIS Press Release of 3/4/2004:
http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/newsrels/SalvadoranTPSEAD_03_04_04.pdf
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) today announced it has completed processing renewal Employment Authorization Document (EADs) for more than 238,000 Salvadorans who have re-registered for Temporary Protected Status (TPS).
This means the competing need that Don Neufeld mentioned has disappeared. However, we cannot see any improvement on I-485 processing at the CSC. On the other hand, I-485 process seems to be recently improved at 3 service centers other than CSC. Especially, the Texas Service Center (TSC) had been infamous as the slowest service center for a long time, however, in January 2004, our colleagues at ImmigratoinPortal.Com contacted Congressman Lamar Smith, who talked to TSC Director, then the TSC actually started I-485 process from February 2004. Only the CSC shows NO PROGRESS at all.

Considering the CSC's ugly performance, I believe Don Neufeld should resign from CSC Director unless he can keep his promise to significantly increase resource allocations to I-485 adjudications beginning April 2004. Please talk directly to CSC Director Don Neufeld so that he can keep his promise.

Sincerely,

Called to Washington DC office

I have just called to Washignton DC office,
and talked with Mr. Malcolm Grace.
He will read our letters, then talk to Congresswoman.
Now, I am not sure if he or Congresswoman would talk to Don Neufeld directly.

By the way,
if somebody live in her district,
please send me PM or post here.
