Obtaining a seller's Permit

Hi,

I am in California and on H4 visa but I want to sell some clay art articles that i made by attending classes in community college. I want to sell these articles in art fairs..

My question is can i get a seller's permit- permanenet or temporary. My other related concerns are:

Is it required to get a seller's permit to sell homemade articles in art fairs?

Whom to contact for seller's Permit?

I do not have a SSN. Does this matter? The only US ID I have is CA state Drivers Licence.

Any help regrading attending art fairs would help...

Thanks

Thanks JoeF for the info...another seesm to be novice question...

Could my Spouse who is on H1 and working for an IT firm get a seller's permit and participate in the shows I was talking about?

Thanks

Can't bizzbee or the H1 spouse in this case classify this as a 'Hobby' and do it? There is no restriction in carrying out a hobby. And as per IRS, you can continue doing a hobby if there is some income once in a while at least. Just a thought.
