my family is waiting for the oath letter.
May I know will online update the status once the letter is mailed out?
Also, the oath letter is from local district office?

Yes, you will get an online update when the oath letter is mailed out.
It can take up to 7 days for the letter to arrive, but usually 3-4 days.
Yes, it comes from your local DO.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the status will be updated online. CIS is terrible at this. They could just as easily forget, and you'll still receive your oath letter, so don't be alarmed if nothing changes online. Of course, if you don't hear anything for months, something could be amiss.
