Hi guys
I too have completed the oath today 02/21/08 at the campbell,CA community center. Around 450 ppl were administered oath. Great experience. I keep hearing that passport was applied at SFO agency etc or post office. How to go about doing that.

I came to know that we can get that either from a passport agency or post office. Which one is better????

Some one mentioned that they got the passport on the same day(same day processing). However when I called the post office
they said it would take atleast 4 to 6 weeks. So which centers do the same day processing and which is better????

Do we need new photographs for the passport or the same photographs will be used????

Also do we need to update the SSN,why and how?????

Please post a clear set of instructions answering the above questions.

Thanks in advance.
Lucky.

Regarding Social Security, YES you need your update your immigration status with the Social Security Administration.

This was just discussed:

For the passport, it doesn't matter where you go. They will send off your paperwork and it will take 4-6 weeks unless you pay the expedited fee then you can get it done in 2 weeks.

Same day processing is available at just a few locations. You can only do that if you have imminent travel plans. You will have to proof that.

Passport agencies require proof of immediate/near future (meaning within the next 2 weeks) travel in order for them to accept your application. Once accepted, you will get your passport in 1 day. Also there will be expedited fees associated with this route.

What are the places one can apply for passport?

1. Post Office
2. Passport Agency?

3. What other?

Any pros and cons?

Ok, there are two places really:

1. Passport Agency
2. Passport Application Centers

Number 1 belongs to the the State Dept. and only handles expedited face-to-face requests. The few locations are in select cities and require a reservation - that can be made on http://travel.state.gov You must provide proof of travel - within the upcoming 2 weeks to qualify for this service. The pro is that you will get the passport on the same day.

Number 2 are independent government entities - usually the Post Office, Court Houses, City Hall, etc who contract from the State Dept. to process passport applications. They are the ones who keep the processing fee of $25 - and if it is the post office they usually pressure you into buying express mail as well. The cons are that they will take your naturalization certificate and you will have to wait for 2 weeks (expedited) or up to 6 weeks (regular service).

Can we also apply us passport for our kids (under 14 years)? What kind of the paper needs to show post office for the kids?

Thanks,

Also remember that there is now something called the passport card which can be used instead of the passport for road travel to neighboring countries. if you apply for both togther it is only $120. good deal
