O-3 to some other status

My wife is planning to do her post doctoral period in some US university. Our son and I will then be relocating with her to USA.

I would like to know more about my possibilities for getting work permit (Employment Authorization Document) under following circumstances:

1) My wife is approved for the H-1B visa.
2) My wife is approved for the O-1 visa.

-In the first case am I eligible to apply for the H-4 visa status and in the second case for the O-3 visa status?

-Is there any other visa status available I can apply?

What about then applying for a change of visa status. Can I e.g. apply for a change from H-4 or O-3 to some other status that would then allow me to apply EAD?
 
You can't work with O-3 or H4. If she applies for J1 you get J2 for which you can apply for EAD to earn some additional income (for "cultural" activities of the family). Or you get your own H1B or J1 or O1.
