Hi all
I am a resident working on H1 visa. I heard that i cannot apply for unrestricted NY state license after I finish my residency unless I have green card. Is that true. I was looking forward to work in NY state for an employer who appears keen to hire me on H1 and may even sponsor my GC later on. Will appreciate inputs

Thanks

Sanjay S

Limited permit

You should be able to get the limited permit. It is valid for three years, but it cannot be extended. Some insurance plans might give you trouble when you try to enlist, but otherwise it permits you to practice medicine just as with the license itself. If your GC goes through you can get the regular license.
The other option of course is to shamelessly lie on you license application. They do not actually verify your nationality. The problem is that from this day forward you expose yourself to significant liability arrest and extradition. Chances are you don't get caught but if you do it will put an end to your US career.
