AC140 case, ALMOST done with gc.

here is my experience:

medicals at dr. jains.

pretty unprofessional doctor. the only good thing about this place is
that you get the report same day. reached at around 8:00 AM with passports
and photo (any color photo apprx passport sized will do).
the total fees including x-rays was around Rs. 1500 per person (forgot
the exact amount).

got photos from delhi photo company (studio). its a big shop on janpath
near connought place. 4 photos for Rs. 100 gave them in a few hours.
you may be able to get the photos immediately if they are printing
glossy photos at that time.

interview was at 8:00 AM.
reached at 7:30 AM, stood in line for 10 minutes, entered consulate
after security check. contrary to what i expected people were allowed
to take in handbags.

stood in line inside the consulate for 10 mins. deposited interview
letter, was asked to take a seat and wait.

name announced around 9AM. desi officer collected all documents.
he already had my AC140 documents.
asked for my I824 and I797. i told him they were in my AC140 documents.
he pulled them out and put them on top of the packet.
DS230 part 1 & 2 (asked us to sign BOTH of them, although i had
already sent a signed part 1 with my AC140).
mrg cert orginal and a copy
birth cert and copy (i got one made recently from the municipal corporation)
birth cert affidavit and copy (my BC did not have my name on it so
i got an affidavit from father and mother. format hardly matters.
just pick up any one of the samples from this forum.)
was asked to give my H1 approval notice. i was'nt execting to be asked
for it but had it in my "secondary documents" folder.
notorized employment letter (salary is higher than original salary,
title is also slightly different now. also instead of saying that i will
be employed when i come to the US, it says that i am currently
employed and employment is in good standing)
photos
passport
sealed medicals
was NOT asked for: bank statements, pay stubs, tax transcripts

collected docs for my wife:
DS230 I and II.
birth cert and copy
mrg cert copy
I134 (did not ask for accompnying bank statements or employment letter)
photos
passport
sealed medical report

asked to pay the fee ($335 per person, i paid cash in USD) and
take a seat again.
waited for almost 2 hrs before a guy with a heavy american accent
called us in hindi. desi looking guy with american accent.
interview was totally random. i think they ask some random questions
because there is really nothing to ask. the guy seemed totally
uninterested in my answers. here are some questions:
how long have you been married?
how did you meet?
do you have your wedding album???
this was totally unexpcted. thankfully, i had 4-5 photos that i had
taken for my wife's h4 last year.
i think you can protest on such questions because if a h4 has been
issued then whats the point of asking for marriage proof again.
do you have a masters degree?
show me the degree.
again unexpected. i had the degree, handed it to him.
what does your company do?
what do you do?
how long have you worked at this company?
you have a degree in chemical engineering what does that have to do
with your current job??
random question. i gave him the usual nonsense about my course work
during masters, importance of analytical skills etc.
he did'nt seem to have any enthu in listening to the answer!

show me your drivers license!!!
what?? this was again very unexpected. anyway, i showed him my
california driving license.

asked my wife where she went to college. asked me what my parent do
and where i did my undergrad.

thats it. he almost smiled and asked us to come back at 5PM to collect
the papers.

returned at 4. watched cricket till 5 inside the consulate.
when we went to the window the guy said they had run out of visa
numbers for our category and we will have to return on tuesday
(intvw was on thursday)! i was aghast. asked to see a senior officer.
the officer was the same guy who had collected our papers in the
morning. i gave him a good piece of my mind. the guy was apologetic
but said he could'nt do anything to help us. however, they did have
one number available and issued my visa.
i picked up mine and will return to delhi on tuesday to pick up her
passport and papers on tuesday.

queries are welcome. i will check the site once in a day.

congrats gadhu !!

alls well that ends well !!!

Contrary to urs , I had a pretty smooth CP at NWD and good experience with Dr. Jain.

Dear Dudes,

i am also going to send my ac140 pkt to nwd consulate this week. i would like to talk/email you about the procedure and formalities. please give me your email id so that i can learn from your experience.

Thanks.

Congratulations!!

How about PCC ... can you please throw some light on that. Were they specific about local-indian/indian-embassy-in-us issued PCC ?
How long is a PCC valid ?

Also, if you don't mind, what's wrong with dr. jain (I gather from a posting that his clininc does not have a female nurse/paramedic for ladies checkup etc. - which is sad ).

Thanks.

AC-140 fees

Dear Gadhu,

Congratulations on your GC. I have a question regarding the fee for AC-140.

I am scheduled for AC-140 interview in October. Do I have to make a single draft of $335 in equivalent Indian currency or do I need two separate drafts ($265+$65)? I want to pay in Inidan currency (draft) and hence the question.

Thanks
Deepak

successful entry

hi. just got back from india. got slightly delayed as i mentioned because the consulate had run out of visa numbers. another problem that i faced was that they had issued the visa with the incorrect place of birth. they reissued both my and my wife's visa.
i had to give them an extra photograph for this. so its good to get 4 copies of your photo which is generally the case anyway.

deepak i dont know the answer to your question but i think i saw some posting here which said that one draft is fine.

infoinfo: i forgot to mention the pcc.
i was not asked for a local pcc, i had one from the san francisco indian consulate. the pcc is valid for 6 months ( thats what the sf consulate told me). i had submitted the application for pcc back in january but did not get it stamped/issued. got it issued a month before my interview!

dr. jain clinic does not have a female attendant. that to begin with is shady, he did not even bother to reply when we asked him what were the immunizations for, the changing room is dirty.

anyway, its not a very big deal.

appeal.. will send a mail to you later but pretty much all information is available on this forum.

Hi Gadhu,
congratulations.
I have my AC- I 140 interview in NWD on OCtober 4.
I had a question on the I-140 and I-824 .
DId you have copies of I-140 and I-824 with you when you went to the interview.
The original I-140 is with the consulate.I think I will ask my lawyer for the original I-824 approval notice and I-140 copy.
What do you say?
Thanks
Monu

monu re: I 824 - I 140

Monu,
I was not asked for my I 824 approval only for the receipt. But if you have it then might as well take it.
I had sent the I824 receipt and I 797 (approval notice) with the AC140 (i am sure you did too, since both of them are required).
The person collecting the docs had my AC 140 and i told him that both the documents were in that packet. he pulled them out and attached them to the front of all documents.

Thanks a lot. gadhu,
I will contact my lawyer and find out if he has the I-824 receipt and the approval.
The good thing is that the person collecting docs had everything in your file and you did not have to give him anything.
