NVC sent case to Chennai, is it too late to apply for PCC ?

No, it is not too late and you should get it at SFO in 1 day (because you have already obtained one).
i dont think you can get it in one day. I got my PCC in Feb 2003 and I applied again in June 2003. It still took 35 days to get it. So, You should apply immedietly. The interview would be only in the last 2 weeks of october. So, there is plenty of time left. Anyway, you have to only send copy of the passport to start the process. You send your original only when they are ready to issue it. So, even if you dont get it in time, you will still be able to go to india.
Probably you will get interview date in end of 10/2003 . It takes 4-6 weeks to get PCC . So apply for PCC soon.
I called Indian Consulate @ Houston once and they told me the way it works. Once they got your application, they might consider your app in 1-2 weeks based on their work load. Once they took your app, they fax your info to corresponding regional passport office in India and will wait for exactly 1 month. If they did not get any reply in a month, they will issue PCC right away. SO if you are applying for PCC and wanted to get it done faster, call them up and say that your situation is critical and going to India very soon for interview. They might consider your case with priority and will give you a Reference number. You can contact your reg. passport office with this ref number to get it done faster. I think you will get it in time. Gook luck. Hope other experienced CP'ers share their exp.

PCC = Police Clearance Certificate
PCC is required for those folks who are undergoing Consular Process (CP). Mostly PCC is required at the time of CP interview but for some consulates such as Montreal it is required at the time of submitting Packet3.
If a passport is issued in India and you try to get PCC from a consulate general of india (CGI) office in USA it usually takes about 45 days. But if your passport was issued by CGI office in USA then you get the same PCC in 1 day.

PCC is the short form for Police Clearance Certificate.
This is a required document when one attends the Immigration
interview at one of the US Consulates. This certificate states that
there is no criminal record for the person.

What you need is :
1) One PCC from the Indian Consulate in UK for
your stay in India.
2) One PCC from UK authorities for your stay in UK.
You don't need any PCC from US authorities for your stay in US
because they can track that on line.

Oh, thats good to hear that PCC is valid for 1 year.
I have been under impression that PCC should have been issued less than 6 months before the interview date. (Various messages in this forum also states 6 months.) I will better do one thing. I will send an email to Madras Consulate to enquire about the validity of the PCC and take the printout of their reply when I go for Interview.

Send an e-mail
One can send an e-mail to Chennai, and check with them , regardless.
If they agree, that would be of a big relief for most of us, from having to obtain another PCC.
If you get an individual e-mail, take a print-out and take it along to the interview.
