I understand "To meet the U.S. citizenship (naturalization) physical presence requirement, you must accumulate a total of at least 30 months (913 days) of physical presence in the United States during the five-year period immediately before the date you file your Form N-400, Application for Naturalization."
I am inquiring for my parent, who recently got the GC but plans to stay 5.5 months in home country, and 6.5 months in USA. I also understand that no trip outside of USA can extend more than 6 months at a stretch. There is at least one particular instance when my parent would arrive to US and depart back within 2 months. So my question is- is the total number of days required to become eligible for Citizenship, is it calculated per calendar year, or is it for entire block of 5 years? I know that after 3 years of GC, my parent will no longer leave USA.
