In my I140 receipt, there is a number A111111111 in a Beneficiary box. In my I140 approval, there is a same number A111111111 in a Beneficiary box. No information about USCIS A# in these both I140 receipt and I140 approval. But when I file I-485 (after my I140 approval), there is a different number A 222222222 in a USCIS Alien Number box in I485 receipt and Biometrics Appointment.

I am confused about these two numbers:confused:? Should are they same?

On I-140 filing receipt number and I-140 approval notice the number will be same and that is I-140 RECIEPT NUMBER OR I-140 Approval notice number. Your I-485 receipt notice will have different Receipt number and A# will be on I-485 filing receipt. Nothing is wrong on your receipts. In future when on any form asks for your A# you will write the A# that is on your I-485 filing reciept.A# will remain same on your Fingerprint notice, your EAD, your AP and your GC.

Dear ginnu. Thank you. In my I-140 filing receipt and I-140 approval notice, there are two numbers. One starting with SRC... and the other start with A....What is the A...number in these receipts?

A# = Alien Registration Number
A# is an eight or nine digit number that is assigned to foreign nationals by the United States Bureau of Citizenship & Immigration Services.

It's just a unique number that identifies an immigrant (or future immigrant)

An A# is assigned to the future immigrant when a 140 application is processed or when a 485 application is processed. Generally, the same A# is carried over in both applications. Under some circumstances I guess, you might end up with 2 different A#'s. The A# on your 485 is probably the more important one. Once you have the A#, you are supposed to quote the A# on your various immigrant applications.

When I applied I-140 last year, I got the receipt with the receipt number starting at SRC....and one number starting A.... in a Beneficiary box (just above my name). When I applied I485, I got the receipt with the receipt number starting at SRC....(different from I140) and one number starting A.... in a USCIS Alien number box (different from I140). I am sure that the USCIS Alien number in I485 is A#. BUT what is the A....number in I140?

It is your Alien Number whether 140 or 485.
When you applied for 485, did you write your A# from 140 receipt on the 485 form (Under "Part 1. Information About You") ?

I did not know that it my A# in I140, so I did not write this number in I485 application. I have A# in the I-1485 receipt is different from A# in 140 receipt. Of course, they should know my A# in I140 because I attached this I140 approval in I485 application.

When I went for fingerprint last 2 months, I used A# in I485 because A# in I485 similar to A# in fingerprint appoitment. Will I have any problems with that????

Your I-140 had your A# and you were supposed to write that A# on your I-485 form. If lawyer filed I-485 why he did not wrote the A# that was on your I-140 approval notice? Now your A# is the A# that is on I-485 filing receipt. Having two A# can delay the process and USCIS officer has the merge the two A# to one A# when he/she is going to approve the I-485. Your final A# is on I-485 receipt, same should be on Fingerprint notice, EAD, AP, GC and on your Naturalization certificate.

First, you and ginnu should edit your messages to replace the A numbers with some obvious made up numbers, e.g. A123456789 and 22233444. A-numbers can be used to identify more information about you, so it's risky to post your A-number on the Internet.

I wouldn't do anything about the two A# at this stage. Getting them to merge them now could delay your case. Just go forward with the A# that is on your I-485 receipt. Use that new number for your EAD and Advance Parole. It's not necessary for them to merge the two A# at this time; they can process the I-485 to completion with the new A# alone. It's at citizenship time when it becomes really necessary for them to merge them. So after your green card is in your hand, you might want to make an Infopass appointment to tell them about the two A# and get them to merge them long before you apply for citizenship.
