Updated 09/04/2002: NSC Biweekly Processing Times Report and EB-485
As we reported, from here on, the NSC will report its processing times "bi-weekly" just like CSC. However, in its last report of EB-485 processing, the figure changed from 07/13/01 in July report to 01/24/01 in 08/16/02 report. Why? Does it mean that the NSC EB-485 processing moved backward for over 6 months? Nop! By now, people know that they receive a number of approvals for the cases with Notice Date of the last week of August, 2001.
As the NSC explained in its report, the 485 applications may not be worked in received-date order due to the requirement to obtain criminal background check results and the A-File. Consequently, the NSC 485 processing times report should not be taken as a yardstick to measure the exact processing time. Our record indicates that the NSC processing times is approximately 11 months. It was one time 10 months, but because of the IBIS check, it appears it takes a little longer time. Peope may as well ignore the EB-485 processing times report in its August 16, 2002.
We post this information because we have been receiving unusual amount of calls and e-mails inquiring of the August 16 EB-485 processing time report. Now since people know that EB-485 figures do not reflect processing of EB-485 in the order of "Receipt," people may want to use 11 months as approximate yard stick to figure out the processing times. It can change, but the NSC has been maintaining the range of 10-12 months as actual processing times for EB-485 for quite a while. We also hope that this posting will not induce some "mechanical-minded" person to call the NSC and argue about processing delays for his/her own case, as it happened in the past!
