Well, finally I received my Fingerprint notice from NSC. I had sent them a letter about two weeks ago with the request to look into my case.
I had filed my application for I-485 in Dec-98. I was starting to panic because I had not heard anything from INS for a while now.

Can someone please tell me if the process (waiting period for PR) is same for Asylees and other categories (such as EB3, EB4) after you get done with the Fingerprints.
Good luck to everyone on this forum.

Regards,
Jameel

Congratulations, and welcome to the club!!

Jameel ,

When you said you filed your I-485 in dec 1998, is that mean you mailed in december 1998?
I sent mine in October and when I called INS automated operator, it says was received in december 6th 1999. so should i consider my I-485 October 1999 or december 1999?

I welcome any response from other people as well.

Thanks

Received date is what counts. In your case October 1999.

Cider_or,

If the notice that you had received said that they received on Dec 6th 1999 then this is the date that counts in your case...

Dear alanpero2
thx for your rich and informative contributions to this board along with Gilbert.
as for the Recieve date and and Notice date , you did clarify it to me before, but like myself everybody is confused,
I mailed my application on July 99, my Recieve date is july 99 and the notice date is september 99, but my case No(LIN-99-262-XXXXX) when I did the math the 262 which (I think) is the working day in the year, it does correspond to septmber 29.
so the question is , If I go by the case no, then it's Sep 99, and if it's recieved date then it's July 99, and that makes a big difference as per the schedule put out by the INS, (one year difference at least),
Please, one last time , clarify,
thx

who knows

By its own rules, the INS is supposed to go with the date it physically receives your application. But on the other hand, the INS is the only federal agency that ignores law and procedures with impunity. I have a feeling that it actually goes by notice date--just my hunch, nothing more.

In other words, no one knows for sure.

sididg,
The LIN number goes with the notice date. The math you did is OK and the notice date matches the LIN number (262) which is allright. That LIN number is not a case number, it is only a number to identify the notice they are sending over to you.
To process applications, INS goes by the date when the application was received and properly filed. That is the "received date" shown in the notice you got from INS (the one with the LIN number).
When INS receive an application, they associate a number to the Allien number of the applicant and go by that (the received date).
I read this in a INS document released sometime ago. Also this issue has been discussed in other forums for EB applications in this same portal, and they arrived to the same conclusion that INS goes by the "received date" and not by the "notice date".
Hope this clarify the issue. Regards

You bet. Below the INS explanation extracted from NSC website.

For most applications filed at a Service Center, your receipt may look like this: LIN 99 001 50001. In this example, the LIN represents the Nebraska Service Center, where the application was initially received into the electronic system. Cases that are filed at or received by another Service Center but processed at the NSC will generally carry the designation of the originating Service Center:

LIN = Lincoln, Nebraska or NSC
EAC = St. Albans, Vermont or VSC
SRC= Dallas, Texas or TSC
WAC= Laguna Niguel, California or CSC

In the example above:

The 99 represents the fiscal year (October 1, through September 30) in which the case was received.
The 001 represents the computer workday in the fiscal year on which the fee was taken.
The 50001 represents the particular case number.
