About RFE

My I-94 and H1 was supposed to expired in May 2000, so the company applied for H1 extension in April 2000.
My Labor was approved in June 2000. We waited till aug 2000 for H1 ext to come. It never came. Applied for 140 on Aug 15, which was approved on Aug 31.
We were still waiting for our H1 ext till Nov 2000 when I told my lawyer to apply for 485 without H1 ext and expired I-94.
Finally I got my H1 ext in Dec 2000 (Just missed the 240 days deadline by 10 days). New I-94 was issued from May 2000 to Oct 2003.
I think I got the RFE because my application for 485 was with expired I-94. In the RFE INS wanted me to show that I was not out of status from the day I entered USA or pay $1000.
Wife never got the RFE because she was working on independent H1 which never expired.

Does that "RFE awk: 01/17/02" means AVM updated on 1/17/02 or you mailed your RFE out on 1/17/02? Please tell me!

I got exactly same RFE with your\'s. It was taken over 6 months for H1-B extention. I thought INS has the record of my H1-B extention,then I did not send one copy of my H1-B extention after I got it. Then on 1/17/02,I got one RFE. I mailed out my RFE on 1/24/02,but AVM still not updated. Do they update their AVM after they received my RFE?

RFE awk means the AVM was changed on that day saying "On Jan 17 2002 your reply to RFE was received".
Lawyer posted the reply on Jan 15th and AVM was updated on Jan 17th and approved on Jan 29th.
