notifying employer/lawyer after gc

i never thought it could be a problem, but after reading
another post here, i thought i would ask you guys anyway.

my gc approved 12/20/01, pp stamped 1/8/02
still waiting for the plastic.

i haven\'t informed my employer(i have my own reasons for that)
so my employer still thinks that i\'m waiting for approval.
i thought my lawyer would know about the approval, but
no one contacted me from their office(they did in the past,
for every notice they received from ins)
i\'m planning to inform them after i get the plastic.

could this cause any problems?

thanks in advance

yes, you need to have records positively, incase of any scruitiny by INS later

send I-9 form to employer and do what is necessary

Good info

I do think it is only logical to inform the employer. But more posts from experts would help us understand the technical aspects of this question. I am not sure it matters but it is interesting.

when is i-9 usually submitted?
after the approval? or after the plastic?
if it needs to be submitted right after approval,
can i wait till i get the plastic?

thanks for your response.

As I understand it, once your PR application is approved your previous status is invalidated. This invalidates the I9 form so you should file a new one as soon as you are approved.

In my case I updated the form after I got the stamp in the passport and then again after I got the card, since the stamp has an expiration date. It is trivial to file/update the form.

The I-9 form is the responsibility of the employer. You have an obligation to notify your employer that your status has changed and to furnish the required evidence of your status and identity, but that\'s where your obligation ends. If your employer doesn\'t follow-through after this, then it\'s the employer who\'s going to be in trouble, not you.

The card expiry date is irrelevant to your status. Like the temporary stamp that\'s good for one year, all that\'s expiring is its functionality as evidence of your status.
