notify port of entry/consulate

Hi all,

I recently got my H1B approval and in the letter it was written that "you can also file for form 829,to notify the appropriate port of entry or consulate".So,can anyone please tell me that is it necessary/recommended to file for this form or is it just optional?I would appreciate any responses.

Do you have a I94 with the new H1 approval? Do you need a H1 visa stamp in the passport? If answer is yes you dont need a I829 to notify the consulate about your H1 approval- THis will be the consulate where you will go to get the H1 visa stamp.

thanks for the prompt reply,i have got the new I-94 and yes i have to get a H1 visa stamp on my passport,so i guess based on your answer i do not have to apply for I829 form.
