Notice of Entry of Appearance as Attorney or Representative

Anyone familiar with the purpose of this form (G-28)?

My new employer asks me to bring this form (signed by an attorney and my signature is also required) to POE along with the standard TN letter.
 
My Employer prepared that for me as well. The 3 times I have renewed at the border they just ignored it.
 
It's useful if doing something via mail. I cannot see any purpose for the G-28 if the attorney isn't physically present at the POE.
 
It's a form that's used as an authorization for an attorney or duly appointed representative to appear on your behalf to CIS if required. No real purpose to it unless you need someone to appear for you. Think of it as a proxy notice or Power of Attorney type notice so they can take care of matters for you if required.
