"NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" stamp

Hi!
Next month I'm going to Canada to apply for my PR card , I landed in jan 2001. So, my question is....when they'r going to put the stamp "NOT VALID FOR TRAVEL" on my landing papers.
1. Right at the border or when I apply for my PR card. OR
2. After I would receive the PR card.

Please dont forget to post your EXP of applying PR card
are you going by Air or taking Rental one way Canadian Plated car or some friend is going to take you from US side?

I've commuted many a times between Ca-Us last year, by bus, train and Air. I found bus to be the safest way. While coming back from Canada I rent a car with canadian lic. plates.
